The Event Program

  • Movie presentation of Citizen Koch

In this searing exposé on the state of democracy in America and the fracturing of the Republican Party, Academy Award®-nominated directors Carl Deal and Tia Lessin (Trouble the Water; co-producers of Fahrenheit 9/11 & Bowling for Columbine) follow the money behind the rise of the Tea Party. CITIZEN KOCH investigates the impact of unlimited, anonymous spending by corporations and billionaires on the electoral process, featuring stories of life-long Republicans whose loyalty is tested when their families become collateral damage in the GOP fight to take organized labor out at the knees. Alternately terrifying and funny, CITIZEN KOCH is an essential and powerful portrait of our political times.

People For the American Way is dedicated to making the promise of America real for every American: Equality. Freedom of speech. Freedom of religion. The right to seek justice in a court of law. The right to cast a vote that counts. The American Way.

Our vision is a vibrantly diverse democratic society in which everyone is treated equally under the law, given the freedom and opportunity to pursue their dreams, and encouraged to participate in our nation’s civic and political life. Our America respects diversity, nurtures creativity and combats hatred and bigotry.

We believe a society that reflects these constitutional principles and progressive values is worth fighting for, and we take seriously our responsibility to cultivate new generations of leaders and activists who will sustain these values for the life of this nation.

Our operational mission is to promote the American Way and defend it from attack, to build and nurture communities of support for our values, and to equip those communities to promote progressive policies, elect progressive candidates, and hold public officials accountable."

Event Info

Please join us for a one night only screening of "Citizen Koch" - the brow-raising film the billionaire brothers Koch, by virtue of deep pockets and a seat on the board, prevented the Public Service Broadcasting network from airing. They thought the oligarchy wouldn't be televised, but then a funny happend on the way to the scrap heap, ordinary Americans stepped up to the plate, donating crowd source funding rescinded by PBS for the completion of the film. "Citizen Koch" premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in spite of attempts at censorship and will now be featured at a theater near you. Producers of "Citizen Koch" Carl Deal & Tia Lessin wouldn't be silenced. Neither will we.
