The Event Program

  • Movie presentation of Truth Be Told

"TRUTH BE TOLD lifts the veil on the seemingly benign Jehovah's Witnesses religion to expose a profit-driven, isolationist culture characterized by fear, totalitarian corporate leadership, intellectual & spiritual intimidation, suspension of critical thinking, failed prophecies, doctrinal inconsistency and improper handling of physical and sexual abuse allegations within the church. See former Jehovah's Witnesses candidly discuss growing up inside the religion. They reveal experiences including the effects of proselytizing door-to-door, shunning non-observant family and friends, suffering the discouragement of pursuing dreams like gaining a higher education, missing other societal holidays and customs. Contributions:

Producing an independent film is expensive. From the drawing-board to the big-screen there are a host of creative and administrative expenses incurred. These costs are considerable but ultimately necessary to ensure the creative and editorial freedom that is characteristic of independent films yet rare for movies produced by major studios. Resources are needed to defray various costs including (but not limited to) marketing and publicity, legal fees and insurance. Funds are also needed to create a closed-captioned version of the film for the hearing impaired and for subtitling the documentary into several languages. Thank you for your help in advance.

Event Info

Confirmed guests include Scott Terry and Candace Conti.
SCOTT TERRY is the author of “Cowboys, Armageddon, and The Truth: How a Gay Child Was Saved from Religion” a recently published memoir recounting his Jehovah’s Witnesses upbringing. Mr. Terry has written for The San Francisco Chronicle, Huffington Post, The Good Men Project, and his work has been covered by NPR, The Wall Street Journal, and other popular media outlets.
In 2012 CANDACE CONTI successfully sued the Jehovah’s Witnesses organization for allowing an adult member of a Fremont, CA congregation to repeatedly molest her when she was a child. Her lawsuit also revealed that the leaders of the Jehovah’s Witnesses religion formed policies that instructed church elders to keep child sex abuse accusations secret.
According to her attorney Ms. Conti identified herself publicly to encourage other victims of sexual abuse to come forward.
